Spiro Agnew

... was Vice President of the USA from 1969 to 1973. He was charged with having accepted bribes totalling more than $100,000 while holding office as Baltimore County Executive, Governor of Maryland, and Vice President. He was allowed to plead 'no contest' to a single charge of failing to report $29,500 of income received in 1967, on condition that he resign the office of Vice President. He resigned immediately, on 10 October 1973.

Richard Nixon appointed Gerald Ford as Agnew's replacement, and Ford became President less than ten months later whan Nixon himself resigned in the face of almost certain impeachment and removal from office.
